Meet Ben! This former vino expert (and current in-house REBEL vino-expert) is one of our newest REBEL and REBEL Iron trainers. Being a former member, he's been a part of the REBEL fam for quite some time, but it was only when he decided that a lifestyle change was in order that he joined the REBEL trainer team.
Keep reading to learn more about how Ben made a healthy lifestyle change and how he continues to help others do the same.
And with that, tell us about yourself, Ben...
1) Provide a quick background. Who are you, what do you teach, and whatever else you're willing to share.
Hi! I’m Ben Prat and you can find me at The REBEL Workout (duh) teaching our REBEL classes, with a REBEL Iron class soon to come. Joining the team at REBEL is a huge, recent change in profession for me. For the better part of a decade I worked in the wine world as a Sommelier. I studied and tasted and traveled and sold a ton of wine. It was very rewarding.
But, making this switch in profession was a very personal decision for me. It wasn’t until I moved to Denver five years ago that I really found fitness. I was always the ‘husky’ kid growing up. I played tennis seasonally, but wasn’t active otherwise. I struggled with overindulgence and even started my 30’s weighing close to 230lbs (about 40lbs more than I weigh now.)
Since that time, I've had fun taking care of myself and getting into the best shape of my life. I look great compared to my old self, but, more importantly, I feel great. I'm able to climb 14’ers, run half-marathons, and can bike miles upon miles upon miles- all things I never thought I’d even WANT to do.
A short while back, I was thinking about the people who impacted me and I knew I was ready for a change.
Since then, I became certified as Personal Trainer earlier this year through NASM and am currently working on certification as a Corrective Exercise Specialist. I want to help as many people be the best version of themselves as possible.
2) What inspired you to join The REBEL Workout and how long have you been a part of the business?
When I joined the REBEL team, it brought things full circle for me. I met Melissa and Ryan a few years ago and they were instrumental in opening my eyes to a part of the fitness world I’d never experienced before. Their workouts were challenging, different, and, above all, fun. When I finally decided to turn this newfound passion into a career, I knew I wanted to be a part of their team and give back what they helped me find!
(Officially I think I became a member of the team a couple of months... although I was a member ever prior to that time!)
3) What does a typical day look like for you?
At this point in my journey, the days definitely vary. Typically you can find me hunting for new clients, working on branding, training clients, coaching classes, writing programs, finding new music, or working on myself!
4) What is your favorite part of working at The REBEL Workout?
Hands down, all the people. I get to work with and learn from mega-skilled and supportive trainers who are passionate about their craft. Then, there are our members. All walks of life, ages and fitness levels, they show up to crush it and inspire me to be better.
Now for the fun stuff... LIGHTENING ROUND
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Lately I’ve been dreaming about an African safari. The floral and fauna look incredible.
One thing you'd bring with you to a deserted island.
Music! And something to listen to it with, of course. :)
One thing your most proud of accomplishing in 2018.
Getting NASM Certified and flipping my work world on its head.
